The 3rd English Speech Contest

The final round of the 3rd English Speech Contest of AFLS grandly opened at the auditorium in the afternoon of June 2, 2015. The contest was aimed at enriching students’ extracurricular activities, better activating their passion for English learning, and at the same time of providing them a platform for improving their practical ability to apply English, offering them a stage where they can show themselves.

The contest was paid extensive attention to and positively responded by grade 2 junior high students, who had actively entered their names and done their best to prepare for the contest. Carefully organized and planned by the Youth League Commission, the Junior High Department and the English Club, and with much preparation work done by the leaders, the teachers as well as members of the English Club, the contest came out as a great success. Twenty candidates in total from grade 2 junior high participated in the competition, and serving as judges of the contest were five English teachers.

The final round of the contest began with a short but fluid introduction in both Chinese and English by two student anchors. Candidates stepped onto the stage one by one, display their love for and persistence in English learning and their efforts paid yesterday and their hopes for tomorrow through clear articulation, natural expression, beautiful languages, perfect oral English and smiles with confidence. After fierce competition, three candidates were awarded the first prize. A prize presentation ceremony was followed by a review and remark session. The contest was then concluded by shows performed by school clubs.

The contest went through smoothly, reaching some high points from time to time. The atmosphere could be characterized as warm as the audience interacted intimately with and applauded their support and encouragement for the candidates. The contest has achieved its expected effects.
